Carer Peer Support Worker

The Aged Persons Mental Health Program

Your new role:

  • Be part of a new Lived Experience team at APMHP, and initially work with a new Consumer Consultant.
  • The Carer Peer Support Worker works within APMHP to build collaboration and inclusion of carers at all levels of service delivery, development, and training.
  • Work closely with carers and the carer lived experience workforce to ensure a broad carer perspective is provided at all levels of service including planning, development, evaluation, and training - advocating for the needs of families, carers, and supporters.
  • Participate in service activities for carers, including information sessions, events, and groups; supporting carer access to relevant resources, supports and services.

About you:

  • A clear understanding of mental health carer 'lived experience' perspectives, which is inclusive and respectful of the diversity of caring relationships including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) consumers and LGBTIQ+ consumers.
  • Draw on existing carer lived experience discipline knowledge and resources, legislation and government frameworks, best practice models of care, research, and service policies and guidelines, which are relevant to supporting mental health carers.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Effective communication skills with well-developed writing skills enabling prompt preparation of documentation.
