The Royal Melbourne Hospital Psychiatry Training Program offers a highly successful and varied training experience with a great choice of rotations across all training levels.

 

There are multiple accredited Stage 1,2 and 3 positions to ensure completion of mandatory training requirements as well as exposure to a broad range of general and specialist psychiatry rotations in senior years.

 

Our general rotations across all stages of training include positions within Inpatient, Adult Community and Residential rehabilitation units based at The Royal Melbourne Hospital (Parkville), Waratah Clinic (Moonee Ponds) and Travencore.  We also provide rotations to Orygen Specialist Program and Aged Mental Health Services.

 

We have close partnerships with multiple specialist services in basic and advanced training.

 

We offer a broad and varied range of teaching and education including psychiatric interview, psychotherapy, psychiatric theory in addition to Grand Rounds and Academic Colloquia.

Our training program is enhanced with access to engaged psychotherapy coordinator, scholarly project coordinator and exam preparation tutorials.

 

In the more senior years, we offer flexibility with part-time, job share and periods of leave without pay to pursue research, further study or other interests.  We also pride ourselves on being family friendly in terms of parental leave, part-time options and working hours (depending on the rotation).

 

The Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental Health Service is renowned for its culture, enthusiastic consultants and retention of trainees to consultant positions.

Selection Criteria Essential: Completed a medical degree and be able to provide evidence of your qualifications
Essential: Full General Medical Registration with AHPRA at the commencement of training in February 2025
Essential: A minimum of 2 years general medical / HMO experience (pre-vocational) at the time of transition to a 1st Year registrar (i.e. February, 2025)
Desirable: Demonstrated effective communication skills, including ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable: Demonstrated commitment to the RMH Values in your work — caring, excellence, integrity, respect and unity
Desirable: Be eligible to work in Australia without employer visa sponsorship
Desirable: Do you have any past or present work / non work related medical conditions which may create risks for you, your colleagues or your patients in undertaking the requirements of this position?
Desirable: Have you been charged or convicted or found guilty of an offence of any nature in Australia or overseas?
Desirable: Have any conditions or restrictions been imposed on your professional registration?
Desirable: Are there any matters regarding your conduct or professional practice that have been referred to the Board that governs your profession; training college; VCAT or any other Victorian tribunal whether they be in progress or completed?
