Northern Area Mental Health Service - South Community Team (Preston)
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Clinician to join our integrated community team. The South Community Team provides assessment and treatment for adults aged 16 - 65 years who have a mental illness. The approach to care is based on the 9 domains and best practice for recovery as described in the Victorian Department of Health (2011) Framework for Recovery-oriented Practice. The community team will be responsible for providing the following specialist mental health services: Crisis responses with in the community, Targeted interventions (both brief and longer term) and Consultation to primary care providers. Clinicians will work in partnership with consumers, carers, PDRSS and other services to provide best practice for recovery using a range of evidence-based approaches.
The Team Leader assists the Manager by supporting clinical staff in the provision of clinical care for consumers experiencing psychiatric illness/disability, and provides high level clinical expertise within the Community Team with respect to the assessment and treatment of consumers with complex mental health related needs and their family/carers.
The position requires extensive experience in the provision of specialist services in public mental health settings and highly developed clinical expertise. Some discipline-specific supervision of staff outside the Community Team but within the AMHS may be required.
We are looking for someone who embodies the following competencies;
EXPERIENCE
A senior clinician (OT3/P3/RPN4/SW3) with at least 5-years’ experience with demonstrated expertise in the assessment, delivery of treatment and provision of targeted interventions and support to consumers with complex mental health related needs and their families/carers. They guide and support others in the team, sharing their knowledge and upskilling team members.
LEADERSHIP
Support and helps to build a positive culture, assists the team and other staff in their clinical decision making, and will contribute their expertise in clinical meetings. The Team Leader will model the competencies outlined within this position summary.
COMMUNICATION
Highly developed skills in writing and an ability to promptly prepare documentation and the ability to communicate effectively with consumers, families/carers, colleagues and other service providers
ADAPTABILITY
Know when to change priorities to meet the needs of the consumer / team / AMHS, adjust quickly to new tasks, be flexible and remain positive in a changing environment. The Team Leader support this culture with their team.
INITIATIVE
The Team Leader is proactive, looking for opportunities for self-development and improving service delivery. Ability to problem-solve without being asked.

Successful applicants must provide either a certified copy of a current Working with Children Check Card or evidence of having made an application for a WWC Check Card upon commencement.

Selection Criteria

Essential: Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (all disciplines except Social Work).
• Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and approved post graduate qualifications in psychiatric nursing and/or relevant experience.
