We are looking for passionate and dedicated individualto join our team, RMH@Home Acute (HITH) at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, city campus. The position is a Locum HITH Consultant from 07/02/2022 - 31/07 2022


RMH@Home provides patient effective patient centred care in the home for patients with COVID and non-COVID conditions that would otherwise need to be delivered in a traditional ward bed. This service assists to promote patient flow out of hospital inpatient beds, along with strategies to prevent hospital admissions.


HITH unit cares for patients from all sectors of Royal Melbourne Hospital, within the Home First Division.

HITH operates a bed substitution model, aiming to provide care that would otherwise require onsite care. Patients are classified as admitted patients and are funded via case-mix funding.

All patient records are accessed via the Parkville Precinct Epic Electronic Medical Record System.

HITH also works closely with the Home Monitoring COVID teams (outpatient care team).

Key Accountabilities:

  • To provide junior medical staff clinical supervision and guidance Melbourne Health patients within the Home First Division (HITH and Home Monitoring).
  • Perform home based clinical assessments of patients
  • Attendance at regular team meetings and handover forums
  • Participate in the consultant ward service and on call roster
  • Assist the multidisciplinary team (medical, nursing pharmacy, allied health) in clinical decision-making
  • Facilitate efficient patient flow of patients both to and from HITH.
  • Promote the role of HITH in quality care delivery within RMH.
  • Actively engage in research and/or professional development activities that contribute to better care outcomes for HITH patients.


About You:

The potential candidate/s will possess the relevant registrations and qualification along with the essential skills required to be successful in this position:

  • Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Credentialed specialist medical practitioner
  • Confidence and experience supervising a team of junior medical staff
  • Strategic thinking and planning abilities
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Strong organisational and teamwork skills
  • High level of professionalism, maturity, reliability and integrity
