Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL) | The Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity | Medical Scientist, Grade 1 | 12 month contract period About the Role: A fixed term vacancy exists for a part-time (2 days per week) medical scientist at the Victorian Infectious Disease Reference Laboratory (VIDRL), Doherty Institute. The position involves providing backfill for medical scientists engaged in public health responses in Victoria. The position will be operationally based within the Epidemiology Unit and may include a variety of backfill roles and other tasks, which may include routine diagnostics, epidemiology and surveillance related work, and related statistical analysis, administrative tasks, and engagement with stakeholders. As a diagnostic and public health laboratory, production of reports and collation of responses to diagnoses of notifiable diseases (including liaison with ordering clinicians) will be within the scope of this position. This position involves close collaboration with relevant units within the Department of Health and Human Services, Victoria. The appointment is for a 12-month contract period, with the possibility to extend dependent on external funding. The successful candidate will have experience in data entry and database management, high level communication and teamwork skills, and be effective in time management. Qualifications in a health or science related degree is essential, as is proven experience in communicable disease epidemiology and public health responses.
