We are looking for a dedicated and experienced person(s) to join our team in Clinical Neurophysiology.  Full Time or Part Time, contract position based at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, City Campus


Your Opportunity:


The duties allocated to this role are specifically to support the operation of the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.

 

The position primarily involves performing clinical tests on out-patients and in-patients to assess neurological function. As a part of this position, you will be performing electrophysiological testing specifically, routine EEGs, prolonged EEGs, evoked potential studies and assisting with nerve conduction studies. The successful candidate should be familiar with how to set up EEGs and EPs, conduct high quality recordings and have some knowledge regarding the basic interpretation of neurophysiological tests. You may be required to assist with nerve conduction/EMG clinics, by supporting consultant neurophysiologists with computer operation, patient management and clinical workflow.

The role also involves:

  • The medical scientist will participate in the daily workings of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Department of Clinical Neurophysiology and assist other scientists and doctors with patient care.
  • Technical support and troubleshooting of biomedical equipment and computers.
  • Liaising with medical representatives and biomedical companies regarding the use of equipment.
  • Attendance and participation in department meetings (on your working days). 
  • Liaising with ward staff to arrange the transport of patients to and from the department.
  • Assisting with administration tasks such as, contacting patients, making bookings, answering phones, completion of paperwork, and data-basing results and statistics.
  • The administrative responsibilities of this position require knowledge of policies and procedures and the strategic direction and policies related to health care delivery.
  • Comply with Quality Management policies and procedures, and participate in Quality Management activities.
  • Support and participate in the Health Service OH&S Procedures and implement (where appropriate) at unit/service area level.

The hours available are for one full time position (80 hours) or more than one part time position. This is a short term contract (28 weeks) beginning on 01/07/2019 and ending on 10/01/2020. If more than one candidate is selected for part time roles they will be required to work the same day(s) each week. There may be some weekend on-call work required at the manager’s discretion. 

 

About you: 

  • Formal Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Science, majoring in Neuroscience, Psychophysiology, Biomedical  Science or similar.

  • Essential:

-       Bachelor’s degree in Science, majoring in Neuroscience, Psychophysiology, Biomedical Science or similar, OR currently undertaking a Bachelor’s degree in Science, majoring in Neuroscience,  Psychophysiology, Biomedical Science with professional placements experience.

-       Experience in electrophysiological testing, including working with both in and out patients.

-       Experience in conducting routine electroencephalograms (EEGs), prolonged EEGs, and evoked potential studies (EPs). 

-       Excellent oral and written interpersonal and communication skills.      

-       Advanced assessment skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.

-       Proficient in Microsoft programs: word, excel, access, outlook.

-       Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Desirable:

-       Honours degree in Neuroscience, Psychophysiology, Biomedical Science or similar.
