Manager, Medicolegal Services

  • Full Time, Fixed Term (3-6 months) based at Royal Melbourne Hospital, City Campus
  • Co-ordinate and manage Melbourne Health’s medicolegal processes to support Melbourne Health in meeting its medicolegal and insurance obligations.
  • Provide oversight and management for a number of medicolegal services within Melbourne Health including, subpoenas, police and court liaison, medical negligence claims, and clinical Freedom of Information requests and issues.

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our Clinical Governance and Medical Services team

 

Your Opportunity:

  • Maintain accurate recording and extraction of information related to status, actions and deadlines for medicolegal matters: Coronial investigations, litigation and notifications to Melbourne Health’s insurer, the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA).
  • Provide management and support for the Freedom of Information team and Police Liaison Officer
  • Oversee and facilitate the provision of medical reports to various bodies such as TAC, WorkCover, insurance companies and lawyers in accordance.
  • Liaise with VMIA and lawyers to represent the interests of Melbourne Health and its staff to facilitate their management of Coronial investigations, medicolegal litigation.
  • Liaise with relevant clinical governance, consumer liaison and quality improvement staff regarding review of deaths reported to the Coroner, and information and statements to investigatory bodies.

About You:

  • Vocational or higher education in a relevant field, including clinical, legal or paralegal qualifications
  • General understanding of medicolegal processes and principles, including Coronial and litigation processes.
  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with all staff, including members of the Executive and senior clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills, including a demonstrated ability to: prepare reports using clear, concise language; and organise information into a logical sequence and include content appropriate for the purpose and audience.
  • Experience in medicolegal management and/or clinical governance in a public hospital setting.
