The Perioperative Nursing Introduction to Specialty Practice

About the Program

Applications are now open for the Perioperative and Peri-anaesthetics Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing (GCCN) programs and The Perioperative Nursing Introduction to Specialty Practice. The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing is conducted in collaboration with our affiliate university, Australian Catholic University. This course is open to Registered Nurses who have successfully completed a Graduate Nurse Program. 


Prerequisites

 

To be eligible to apply for the Peri-operative stream you must have a minimum of 24 months post registration experience.

 

To be eligible to apply for the Peri-anaesthetics stream you must be currently employed in the Peri-anaesthetics department at RMH with at least 8 months Peri-anaesthetics and/or recovery experience and have a minimum of 24 months post registration experience.

 

The GCCN courses consists of four (4) subjects specific to the area of study undertaken. Subjects are delivered through a variety of teaching modalities, including lectures, tutorials, clinical simulation, online learning and worksheets. Assessment consists of assignments, clinical practice portfolios and reflective practice. Peri-anaesthetic clinical subjects will be taken in conjunction with SVHM.

 

The Perioperative Nursing Introduction to Specuialty Practice is open to Registered Nurses with at least who have at least 1 year of clinical experience who have not previously worked in RMH perioperative area and are interested in the vast and diverse roles of the perioperative and perianaestetics Nurse. 

 

Length of course

Program length varies, however if you enter the program as a Grade Two Year Two Registered Nurse, the program must be completed over two years. 

Applications should include a cover letter addressed to the Post Graduate Nursing Program Coordinator, clearly stating the stream being applied for, a curriculum vitae, you most recent academic transcript, and the contact details of two clinical referees. All applications will be assessed on letter of application, curriculum vitae, academic results, clinical experience, references and interview.
