Life With Us:

Orygen Youth Health (OYH) provides specialist mental health services for young people aged between 15 and 25 years of age who reside in the western and NorthWestern regions of Melbourne.


The focus of the position is to implement an Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program within a youth mental health clinic at OYH. The vocational specialist role involves intensive and individualised work with young people attending the service to ensure they are well supported and linked to suitable employment and educational opportunities.

 

The specialist will provide vocational leadership to clinical staff and actively develop partnerships with a wide range of external organisations to enhance employment and educational outcomes for young people. This will include extensive contact with employers, training providers, educational institutions, community service organisations and other health professionals. Vocational specialists are not clinical roles and will receive ongoing training and supervision from Orygen’s functional recovery unit and senior clinicians.

 

This position includes the use of an organisational car, as agreed between the successful applicant and project coordinator.

  • Establish an Individual Placement and Support (IPS) vocational program at OYH
  • Provide specialised individual career development services that support young people to gain employment. This can include career planning, assisting with access to educational opportunities (secondary studies, vocational training and apprenticeships or tertiary studies) and supporting young people to maintain employment.
  • Develop and deliver training workshops to clinical staff, community groups and other organisations that promote vocational recovery.
  • Provide support and education to employers in how to best support young people in the workplace and develop further opportunities for ongoing work placements
  • Develop partnerships with external organisations that increase access to vocational opportunities for young people of the service.
  • Complete Individual Placement and Support (IPS) and vocational recovery training as directed
  • Attend networking meetings and appointments with employers, community service organisations and education providers to create job opportunities for young people

Your Contribution:

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant field
  • Experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, career development or a related field.
  • Possession of a full Victorian driver’s licence.
  • Knowledge of the employment services sector, Centrelink and other state and federal employment initiatives that impact young people.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with young people and their families
  • Capacity to develop effective working relationships, collaborations and partnerships with a range of services within the broader community service system, in particular employment services
  • Willingness to work from a community-based site and across multiple sites if required
  • Willingness to develop skills and knowledge of youth mental health
