About the position:

Based at Melbourne Health - City Campus, the Senior Project Manager will support the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct partners to plan and manage operational impacts of the Parkville Station construction and ensure that precinct business operations are not unduly affected.  The position requires developed project management skills, an ability to analyse stakeholder requirements and strong communication skills.

The Senior Project Manager will work closely with the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA) and its contracting agencies throughout the varied construction phases of the project to ensure business continuity is maintained by precinct partners.  The Senior Project Manager will collaborate with MMRA technical and planning teams and appointed contractors to ensure a coordinated and focused planning effort across the Parkville Precinct from design through to post-commissioning.

(Please note: This is not a construction or design role, this is a stakeholder management project role)

The Melbourne Metro Rail Project proposes to increase the capacity, reliability and efficiency of the train line services to meet Melbourne’s projected growth in the North West and South East corridors. It intends to achieve this using two parallel, nine (9) kilometre rail tunnels and five (5) new underground stations to be located at North Melbourne, Parkville, CBD North, CBD South and Domain. This role focusses on the Parkville Station and managing and mitigating the potential impacts of construction on the operations of precinct partners.

The current plan for the Parkville Station is for the location of the train station ‘box’ (location of the platforms) to reside under Grattan Street between Royal Parade and University Square. There are three station entrances / exits proposed for the Parkville Station including the Triradiate exit (North east corner), Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (South west corner) and University Square (Grattan Street).

It is recognised that the development of the Parkville station will have a range of impacts on the major health organisations and research institutions across the Precinct. With shared needs across the Precinct, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and supervision to a Precinct planning team to support the key project deliverables and ensure optimal outcomes are achieved for Precinct stakeholders.

The Senior Project Manager will be employed by Melbourne Health and report to the Director of Strategy and Planning. The incumbent will work closely with the capital planning, facilities management and communications teams from the represented entities; The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Royal Women's Hospital, The Royal Children's Hospital, The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, The Walter Eliza Hall Institute and University High School.

To support this work, a project team of 3 direct reports will need to be recruited, including a project manager and part time communications officer and administrative assistant.
