OYH provides specialist and comprehensive mental health services to young people aged between 15 and 24 years of age who reside in the western and north-western regions of Melbourne. Clinical services are provided to young people with mental health disorders within the community, and within an inpatient setting for episodes of serious mental disorder.


The Youth Justice Mental Health Clinician (YJMHC) position is a specialist senior clinical role at Orygen Youth Health (OYH) focused on enhancing the ability of community-based Youth Justice clients to access appropriate and timely mental health services.

 

The YJMHC has a dual role as (1) Forensic Clinical Specialist equivalent at OYH and (2) In-reach mental health clinician across numerous Youth Justices (YJ) offices in the NWMH catchment.

  • Manage and undertake mental health and risk assessment, psychological treatment, crisis intervention, family work and systems containment, for the client/carers/system
  • Provide high-quality clinical care based on clinical experience working with young people with serious mental illness
  • Provision of case management or family work to selected clients and associated documentation
  • Contribution to a culture of caring, teamwork, continuous improvement, constructive performance review, quality work standards and client service

Your Contribution: 

  • Accredited and appropriate qualifications in the fields of Occupational Therapy, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or Psychiatric Nursing 
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in clinical practice within the mental health field, including young people experiencing mental health disorders 
  • capability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team  
  • Knowledge of the rationale and evidence for early intervention in mental illness  
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with young people and their families
