The Royal Melbourne Hospital Neurology ward is a 24 bed specialist medical unit. We have 12 dedicated stroke care beds; 6 of these are cardiac monitored to a central station for our acute stroke patients. We are world leaders in the delivery of hyper-acute stroke care, and function as a state-wide centre for Endovascular Clot Retrieval (ECR).

 

We are seeking individuals with effective communication skills and the ability to work cohesively within a multidisciplinary team.  The Stroke Nurse Consultant role is integral in care coordination and discharge planning, providing education to stake-holders and delivering hyperacute care.  Your acute hospital experience will provide you the foundations for us to support you in developing your neurological nursing skills.

 

The successful applicant will have:

 

•Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency

 

•Recent clinical experience (minimum 12 months) working in acute stroke

 

•Completion of a Graduate Certificate, Diploma or Masters in Neurosciences or Stroke (or working towards)

 

•Demonstrated ability to practise collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary health care team

 

•Demonstrated provision of high quality patient care

 

•Developed assessment, clinical reasoning, problem solving and prioritisation skills

 

•High level of motivation and willingness to learn

 

•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

 

•High level of reliability and professional conduct
