Your new team

  • Provides expert multidisciplinary care to consumers from across Victoria
  • The Neuropsychiatry service is a national assessment service whilst the Eating Disorders service has a catchment that includes the Western Metropolitan area as well as the Western half of regional Victoria.
  • The Neuropsychiatry and Eating Disorders Units have 8 in-patient beds in addition to outpatient service
  • Staff are caring, cohesive and a dynamic multi-disciplinary team which value the specific contributions of all clinical staff. 
  • This position offers rich opportunities to develop your career as a senior nurse through the provision of both clinical and managerial leadership

Your new role

  • Oversee and provide leadership for day to day activities on the inpatient unit. Such as overseeing rosters, staff allocation, clinical interventions, staff training and development needs, meetings, etc.
  • Provide support and direction to unit staff as well as engage with other hospital staff and departments (clinical and non-clinical). Provide consultation to representatives of external clinical services.
  • Assist as required with the referral, intake and discharge processes for the unit.
  • Develop and deliver high level clinical standards.

About you

  • Registration as a registered nurse under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Bachelor Degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent, or, Bachelor Degree in Nursing plus a Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
  • Minimum of two years post-graduate experience
  • Relevant knowledge and demonstrated skills in the principles and practice of working with people with a psychiatric disorder or disability, and their carers, families and dependent children
  • Well-developed writing skills and an ability to promptly prepare case assessments, clinical notes, reports, plans and other forms of documentation
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation, Government policy and strategic directions in psychiatric services
  • You have a passion for caring and making a genuine difference in the lives of public mental health consumers.
  • You enjoy being part of a dynamic team yet are confident to work autonomously and assume leadership.
  • You are committed to continued learning and broadening of your skills as much as you support the development and growth of your peers and students.
  • You communicate clearly and effectively and are comfortable managing up and down.
