Anatomical Pathology - Grade 3 Cytology/Histology

A fixed term part time position has become available for a Grade 3 Scientist in our Anatomical Pathology Department at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. The successful applicant must have a dedicated degree in Medical Laboratory Science with a major in Cytology or Histology considered an advantage or equivalent.

Your new team

The Anatomical Pathology department at RMH is a NATA and RCPA accredited laboratory which provides a wide range of Histopathology and Cytopathology testing, participation in multidisciplinary meetings, teaching and training activities, pathology registrar training, research activities, including tissue banking and deceased patient management

This is your opportunity to work with a team of highly specialised scientists and technicians in the provision of Anatomical Pathology services to RMH and Parkville precinct medical providers. Your strong commitment to teamwork, flexibility and organisation skills will enable you to operate across the various technical roles in Anatomical Pathology at RMH.

Your new role

Following suitable training, you will be rotated through the various areas of the laboratory performing duties which include:

  • Perform routine Cytology and Histology duties which include: Cytology screening and report writing, Cytopreparation, Embedding, Microtomy, assist with surgical cut -up, scientist cut-up,  frozen sections, special stains
  • Perform specialized Histology duties which include: Immunohistochemistry, Renal histology, FISH and Molecular pathology
  • Perform attendance of simple and complex Cytology procedures
  • Participate in in-house quality control procedures

About You

  • Qualified in Bachelor of Applied Science (Histology/Cytology) major,
  • Post graduate qualifications CT(ASC), CT(IAC) desired
  • Must have extensive experience in Anatomical Pathology laboratory and the capacity to work in a variety of roles, independently and under supervision, with a collaborative working style
  • You are suitably qualified scientist with tertiary teaching hospital laboratory experience, looking to expand your skills and are willing to work on a rotating roster, within our supportive and dedicated multidisciplinary team
  • You have effective communication skills and a passion for continued professional development
  • You are well organised, self-motivated, familiar with LIS i.e. AUSLAB, good communication and teamwork skills

Experience in Non-Gynaecological Cytology is highly desired, with experience in Histology being an advantage however not essential. Scientists with experience in Cytology and Histology are encouraged to apply.
