We are a multidisciplinary team in a unique and motivating work environment, conscious of providing the most up to date evidence based interventions to our consumer group. The SPOS program is co-located with the Inner West community intake program.  The role provides an important function, supporting consumers in relation to their right to seek an independent second psychiatric opinion if they are subject to a treatment order.

The program is well established, and supported by experienced Intake Support Officers who are attached to the service.

  • Coordinate the Second Opinion service, to ensure timely access to the service
  • Deliver the Intake functions for the SPOS service
  • Participate in the IW Clinical Intake service (one half day per week, and leave cover support as required)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of legislation governing mental health nursing practice in Victoria.
  • Respond to general enquiries and requests for provision of information about the Service, and provide advice regarding the range of options for second opinions;
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Clinical Services to provide clinical coordination for Freedom of Information requests and feedback and complaints
  • Working as part of the Inner West Intake Team
  • Utilise your well-developed clinical skills to communicate effectively with people contacting the service, and engaging with those requesting a second opinion to explore needs and preferences;

Your Contribution:

  • Registration via Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (all disciplines except Social Work);
  • Extensive experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness and psychiatric disability, inclusive of the impact of mental illness on dependent children and family/carers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with consumers, family and carers from a range of cultural backgrounds, and provide gender sensitive services;
  • An understanding of the Mental Health Act 2014, other relevant legislation and the policies and procedures associated with them;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage and communicate with a range of stakeholders, via a range of modalities (eg. verbal, written);
  • Effective time management and organisational skills, and a demonstrated ability to prioritise competing demands;
  • Familiarity with a range of computer software packages (eg; Outlook, Excel, Word, CMI, Local systems eg (Bossnet, CPF), and VHIMS;
