Senior Neuropsychologist (Grade 4)

  • Part Time role, working 0.6 EFT
  • Consult across the NWAMHS to all inpatient & residential and community settings as required
  • Use your knowledge of neuropsychological profiles to treat a wide range of conditions

The North West Area Mental Health Service (NWAMHS) along with the Mid West, Inner West and Northern Area Mental Health Service form the NorthWestern Mental Health Program.  NWAMHS will be transferred to Northern Health in 2022.

 

NWAMHS provides a comprehensive range of psychiatric services to people who reside in the local government areas of Moreland and part of Hume. Psychiatric services to residents of the North West Area are provided through:

  • Adult Community Services
  • Moreland Community Team
  • Hume Community Team
  • Hospital Outreach Post Suicidal Engagement Program
  • Broadmeadows Community Care Unit and PARC
  • Broadmeadows Inpatient Psychiatry Unit (BIPU)

These programs provide a range of acute, continuing care and recovery focussed rehabilitation service relating to psychiatric assessment and treatment of severe psychiatric disorder. The effective delivery of high quality psychiatric services requires a high level of consultation and liaison between the component services of the North West AMHS and with a wide range of community services and agencies.

 

Your new role:

  • Contribute to excellence in client care through the Adult Mental Health Service within Royal Melbourne Hospital.
  • Provide support by consulting across the NWAMHS to all inpatient & residential and community settings as required
  • Undertake neuropsychological assessments and intervention for consumers with severe treatment resistant mental illness, acquired brain injury, cognitive impairment and illicit substance use, including assessment of cognition, behaviour and personality
  • Assist with diagnostic clarification and neuropsychological recommendations
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to implement appropriate management and interventions for consumers
  • Provide support and assist with client behavioural management plans when working towards discharge from NWAMHS

About you:

  • Registration as a Psychologist under AHPRA with practice endorsement as a Clinical, Forensic or Clinical Neuro Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (or eligibility to enter a registrar program as a clinical, forensic or clinical neuropsychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia where relevant)
  • Endorsement / Masters in Neuro-psychology and eligibility for membership of the College of Neuropsychology of the APS
  • Sound theoretical knowledge of neuropsychological profiles in a wide range of psychiatric, neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions
  • 10 years' experience or equivalent
  • Proficiency in conducting neuropsychological assessments with clients with psychiatric, neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions and providing differential diagnosis
  • Knowledge and skill in providing clinical interventions to clients with psychiatric conditions including psychoeducation, strategy implementation, counselling and behaviour management
  • Demonstrated skill in working as a member of a multidisciplinary team and liaising, collaborating and negotiating with other service providers and agencies
  • Ability to engage and work effectively with clients, families and carers
