The Northern Area Mental Health Service is an integrated network of mental health services providing psychiatric services to residents in the Cities of Darebin and Whittlesea. We are seeking a RPN to provide leadership of quality improvement, evidence based practice and positive cultural and practice change in relation to safety at NAMHS Adult Inpatient unit. As the Safety Culture Co-Coordinator, you will work as a member of our multidisciplinary team within the NAMHS IPU, with specific consideration of care for consumers with significant risk factors; e.g. High risk/ICA consumers, consumers with risk related to vulnerability/trauma etc.

Your Contribution:


Provide leadership of quality improvement, evidence based practice and positive cultural and practice change in relation to safety at NAMHS Adult Inpatient unit. This includes a diverse range of safety concepts, including but not limited to: SAFEWARDS, reducing restrictive interventions, gender sensitive practice, trauma informed care, sexual safety, environmental safety, staff safety, consumer and visitor safety, occupational violence.

  • Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
  • Advanced knowledge and considerable experience in mental health.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Developed knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act, Reducing Restrictive Interventions initiative, SAFEWARDS, gender sensitivity and safety initiative and other relevant legislation, policies and strategic directions of the Public Mental Health Service.
  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritise and use initiative. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and experience in engagement in clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability
