Your new team:

The Sunshine Adult Acute Psychiatric Unit (SAAPU) is a 29 bed service which provides therapeutic support for Mental Health consumers on their path to recovery. The SAAPU team are committed to supporting staff wellbeing in a dynamic, busy environment and promote work/life balance with: flexible self-rostering, reflective practice, support of comprehensive professional development with the NWMH Mental Health Training and Development Unit and partnerships with specialised services and opportunities for growth. Mid-West Area Health Service provides a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services to people who reside in the local government areas of Brimbank, Melton and parts of Hume (Sunbury/Bulla). We deliver specialist clinical programs across Adult Community Services, EMH/PARC/CL psychiatry, St Albans Community Care Unit and our Adult Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit and Adult Acute Inpatient Unit.

 

Your New Role:

  • The RPN2 role will utilise clinical knowledge to enhance quality of person centred care within the unit.
  • Encourage a supportive environment in which critical thinking; reflection and evidence-based practice are components of a process of continuous quality improvement, both for individual professionals and systemically throughout the service.
  • Promote principles of timely access to the acute service by proactively engaging with key clinicians of Midwest Programs and other stakeholders; in particular with the SAAPU multidisciplinary team, the SAAPU Transition Coordinator, and EMH staff.
  • Engage with consumers to provide individualised therapeutic interventions and information, to support consumer’s awareness of options about care and recovery.
  • Provide assessment and planning to meet the needs of consumers and their family/carers.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to share knowledge of individuals’ needs and challenges, to create support and a team approach to care and planning.
  • Promote and contribute to the activity and participation program by co-facilitating activities with consumers which support their recovery.

About you:

  • You are an AHPRA registered Nurse with ward experience and are willing to work on a rotating roster, within our supportive and dedicated multidisciplinary team.
  • Have consolidated clinical experience (at least three years post qualification), preferably in a range of Mental Health settings.
  • Have a well-developed knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation, policies and strategic directions of Public Mental Health Services
  • Have a proven ability to provide clinical leadership and professional guidance to nursing staff
