Expressions of interest are sought from current Melbourne Health senior medical staff with a demonstrated interest in Organ and Tissue Donation for the position of Medical Donation Specialist within the Hospital (0.2 FTE).
The Medical Donation Specialists (MDS) within the hospital have key responsibilities in the following areas:
(1) Developing strategies to ensure that all potential deceased donors are properly identified and evaluated, and the opportunity for donation is offered
(2) Assisting with the Donate Life audit of hospital deaths to identify potential organ donor cases
(3) Integrating organ and tissue donation with other end-of-life care
(4) Reporting performance against key performance indicators
The position reports to the Director Critical Care and Investigative Services on a day-to-day operational basis as well as the Victorian Medical Director of Organ and Tissue Donation with respect to performance and compliance with the national framework.
