Your new team


The Central Equipment Library (CEL) is a new initiative at RMH City campus and sits under the Clinical Engineering department. The CEL works in partnership with Clinical Engineering and a number of RMH teams to ensure that centrally held health technology and medical devices are replenished daily on wards and that critical loans are available. The CEL works with the Clinical Engineering department to ensure equipment is managed across their life to meet the needs of The Royal Melbourne Hospital’s strategic plan.


Your new role


In this exciting and varied position, you will be joining a small, collaborative team of professionals committed to delivering Safe, Timely, Effective, Person-centred Care.

  • You will work a rotating roster including weekends and public holidays and you will play an integral role within the Central Equipment Library within the Clinical Engineering Team.
  • This position will include providing the first-level contact to our internal stakeholders accessing the Central Equipment Library.
  • You will actively support efficient and responsive service to ensure that clinical care requirements are met, including cleaning, triaging, retrieval, maintenance, tests, inspections, and acceptance tests for medical equipment.

About you


You have a Diploma qualification or equivalent in Biomedical Equipment or Electro technology, as well as:

  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Sound judgment, initiative, and aptitude for problem resolution.
  • Solid administrative, computer and communication skills.
  • An understanding of customer service and phone help with a focus on active listening and customer response.
  • Ability to prioritise work and maximise efficiency
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel and database software.

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Record Check. Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of an immunisation assessment and COVID-19 Vaccination prior to commencement.


Selection Criteria Essential: Able to participate in an 7-day rotating fortnight Roster.
Essential: Able to pick up additional shifts in addition to scheduled roster for leave cover
Essential: Permanent resident or valid visa and eligible to work in Australia?
Essential: Diploma Qualification or the equivalent of Biomedical Equipment or Electrotechnology (or working towards)
Essential: Excellent oral and written computer literacy and the ability to use Word, Excel and Outlook
Essential: Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Essential: Ability to prioritise competing demands and work flexibly to meet deadlines
Essential: Demonstrated time management and organisational skills
Desirable: Previous experience in a hospital setting
Desirable: Knowledge of infection control principles and procedures
