The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community based facilities. We are looking for passionate and dedicated individuals to join our Occupational Therapy team. This is a Part Time position, working 48 hours per fortnight, based at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Park Campus.

Your Opportunity:
This role will provide research and clinical leadership within the Occupational Therapy department and leadership of Community Therapy Service Allied Health practice. Further, this role will lead clinical intervention and research within Melbourne Health’s Hand Hub, Australia’s first upper limb robotics hub.


The successful candidate will have a leading role in ensuring delivery of an excellent Occupational Therapy clinical service. They will contribute to the delivery of excellent patient care by providing high level clinical advice and fostering staff development. The role will also be pivotal in engaging and managing student placements including Vic Place reporting compliance. You will undertake a clinical caseload within the Community Therapy Services (as negotiated with the Occupational Therapy Manager) and will work with key stakeholders to develop innovative models of patient care and maximise the role of Occupational Therapy within the Community Therapy Services.


You will have demonstrated experience in initiating and leading research, quality projects and service development within Occupational Therapy. You will also be expected to contribute to Occupational Therapy literature through both publication and conference presentations.


This role will be supported by the Allied Health Translational Researcher, Occupational Therapy clinical leaders, Occupational Therapy Research leader, Workforce Development Manager and Occupational Therapy Manager. 

  • Lead clinical intervention and research in Melbourne Health’s Hand Hub
  • Oversee Occupational Therapy within Community Therapy Services
  • Drive research within Community Therapy Services
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision and teaching to Occupational Therapy staff
  • Build relationships with external providers including universities
  • Provide evidence based, person centred care

About You:

  • Current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (or equivalent)
  • Relevant post graduate qualification, or working towards its imminent completion – minimum of Master’s Degree.
  • Minimum 10 years of clinical and leadership experience
  • Research or clinical expert within relevant caseload
  • Capacity to engage and provide leadership in matters relating to research, including grant applications, scientific publications and oral and poster presentations
