Medical Scientist, Grade 3  

Full Time, Fixed Term (October 2016 – January 2018)

Pathology – The Royal Melbourne Hospital.

 

A Full time fixed term position exists for a Grade 3 Scientist to oversee the day to day operation of the Immunohistochemistry laboratory within Anatomical Pathology Department at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. The successful applicant must have a dedicated degree in Medical Laboratory Science with a major in Histology and at least 10 years experience in the field.

 

Extensive experience in automated immunohistochemistry is essential. You will be assigned duties which include:

  • Training and supervising staff performing immunohistochemistry using automated immunohistochemistry stainers.
  • Work up and validate new primary antibodies.
  • Perform immunohistochemistry staining using automated stainers.
  • Oversee and submit RCPA QAP staining exercises.
  • Ensure the laboratory service meets criteria defined by NATA and RCPA for accreditation purposes.
  • Monitor test quality and troubleshoot non-conformances.
  • Ensure the laboratory complies with OH&S requirements.
  • Other duties as directed.

 

The successful candidate is expected to participate in staff rotations throughout Anatomical Pathology, participate in self education activities, internal & external training courses, and in clinical and scientific meetings.
