Consumer Peer Support Worker
Fixed Term Part Time position until June 2018
About the Role:
We are looking for a motivated, compassionate and resilient person to provide peer support and information to mental health consumers during the time of discharge and transition from the inpatient unit to a range of other services and supports. The role aims to empower consumers to make their own choices about their treatment and recovery with an emphasis on strengthening their internal resources to move forward and on creating external links in the community for support once they’re discharged from the inpatient unit.
The peer support worker will work closely with other lived experience staff and with clinical staff of the inpatient unit and community service. They will also provide consumer perspective and leadership to the Inner West AMHS where appropriate, and participate in evaluation processes. A lived experience of mental health services, an understanding of peer support and recovery principles and strong interpersonal skills are essential.
