Consumer Peer Support Worker (PSW)

Northern Area Mental Health Service 

  • Part time ongoing and fixed term positions
  • Based at Northern Hospital, Epping 
  • Working Monday - Friday
  • Exciting opportunity to provide peer support to consumers who are receiving clinical mental health services

 

Life With Us:

  • The Northern Hospital - Epping, is a major community hospital serving the northern suburbs of Melbourne with these positions based in the Northern Hospital Psychiatric Wards 7 & 8. 
  • Life with us will involve working alongside the existing and established PSW team made up of both consumer and carer peer support workers and supported by an experienced peer coordinator.
  • It is a multidisciplinary, supportive team environment where collaborative work is encouraged

 

Your New Role:

  • Provide peer support and information to consumers in an adult acute inpatient unit. The work will focus on support for consumers during their admission and for a small number for a short period following discharge from the acute inpatient unit to a range of other supports in the community.
  • Be part of a dynamic work group of PSW, Peer Coordinators and broader team including clinical and support staff.
  • Be active collaborators in developing, reviewing and providing information resources for consumers and their families and carers

About You:

  • A lived / living experience of mental ill-health and treatment within a mental health service
  • Ability to draw on your own lived / living experience in working alongside consumers
  • Awareness of, and commitment to, your wellbeing and self-care as it relates to your work
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Empathic and compassionate approach
  • Understanding of peer support and recovery principles
  • Ability to work independently in an organised manner and collectively alongside your peer support work group, while also taking direction for daily activities where required
