Specialist Plastic Surgeon - Locum - Fractional

 

The Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital is offering a six month locum position for a Breast Microsurgeon. The position is open to qualified Plastic Surgeons holding medical registration in Victoria. Appointment is for six months from 31st Jan 2018.

 

The RMH Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Unit has 14 attending Plastic Surgeons, 2 local Accredited Registrars, 1 local Unaccredited Registrar and 5 Residents. The Unit specialises in microsurgical reconstruction for breast, head & neck cancer and lower limb trauma. The Unit also manages a large number of general plastic surgery cases, including elective and post-traumatic hand surgery, facial trauma, brachial plexus injuries, melanoma and provides a broad reconstructive service to all specialties.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of Victoria’s leading tertiary referral hospitals. It is a major trauma centre and provides all specialist medical and surgical services. The Hospital is a privileged member of Melbourne's world-leading Parkville Precinct, and enjoys strong relationships with many of the city's major universities and research institutes.

 

Position: Locum Breast Microsurgeon

Supervisor: Dr. Anand Ramakrishnan

Employment status: Sessional Locum

Term of employment: 31st Jan 2018 – 31 July 2018

Hours of work: 11.5 hours per fortnight

 

SERVICE SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

  • Demonstrate and commit to evidence based patient focused clinical practice, including disease management strategies, clinical protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Participate in Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery Unit and the Royal Melbourne Hospital clinical and administrative audit and quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in the Australian Council of Healthcare Service Standards Accreditation and EQuIP programs.
  • Contribute to hospital and health service strategic plans in accordance with divisional and hospital programs and implement these strategies.
  • Respond promptly and appropriate to adverse events, patient and carer complaints, Freedom of Information requests and medicolegal inquiries. 
  • Ensure quality and clinical standards are achieved and maintained at a high level.
  • Manage the waiting list to the best patient outcomes within available resources.
  • Invest in teaching and research to promote excellence in healthcare.
  • Ensure appropriate plans are developed for the Division, ongoing staff training and development.
  • Support and facilitate education and research within Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery Unit.
  • Maintain professional standards and skills by demonstrating ongoing professional training and development.
  • Encourage, initiate and participate in basic clinical, educational and/or health services research.
  • Participate in medical and other professional and undergraduate/postgraduate and continuing education programs.
  • Facilitate consultations across the remainder of the hospital for Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery Unit in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ensure appropriate linkages with VPSU are forged and maintained.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to cost efficiency.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to budget compliance.
  • Ensure leave liabilities are directed within the appropriate timeframes.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Registration with the Medical Board of Victoria (AHPRA).
  • MBBS
  • Fellow Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) - Plastic Surgery
  • Completed specialist training in accredited Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery program including exit exams.
  • Appropriate health professional tertiary qualification/s.
  • Prior experience in Breast microsurgery (post-Fellowship sub-specialty breast microsurgery training or clinical practice).
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated clinical practice at a high standard.
  • Strategic thinking and planning abilities.
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Experience in clinical research desirable.
