Locum General /Colorectal Surgeon (September 2019 to February 2020)
Within the Division of Surgery, Perioperative, Trauma and Surgical Oncology

Services Location: City Campus

Reports to: Head of the Colorectal Unit & Department of General Surgical Specialties

Award: Senior Medical Officer

Classification: Appropriate Specialist Year

We are also a proud part of the world renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our Colorectal Unit within the Department of General Surgical Specialties. This is a Locum, Fixed Term position, working 28 hours per fortnight, based at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, City Campus. 

 

 

The purpose of this role is to: 

  • Work as a member of the Colorectal Unit within the Department of General Surgical Specialties
  • To participate in patient care, teaching, education and clinical research
  • To participate in the Colorectal Specialty on call roster
  • To participate in the Emergency General Surgery roster
  • To Participate in a range of Specialist General Surgery roles including emergency general surgery & trauma in the Colorectal Unit
  • Ensure surgical outcomes in line with national and international benchmarks
  • Comply with Quality Management policies and procedures, and participate in Quality Management activities for the Department of General Surgical Specialties. Support and participate in the Health Service OH&S Procedures and implement (where appropriate) at unit/service area level.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe work environment by reporting any incidents of unsafe work practices, sites/areas or equipment.

  • Participate in the Colorectal clinics and provide quality surgical patient assessments.
  • Participate in inpatient duties, particularly covering operating theatre sessions, post-operative ward management.
  • Provide supervision and performance management of junior medical staff (residents, registrars & fellows) throughout the inpatient and outpatient setting
    • Participate in Unit meetings, research, imaging and pathology
    • Participate in the Emergency general surgical service.
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Participate in unit quality monitoring activities and continual quality improvement
  • Support and participate in the Health Services OHS procedures and implement where appropriate at unit/service level
  • Assist in maintaining a safe work environment by reporting any incidents of unsafe work practices, site/areas or equipment

Key Selection Criteria

 

-       F.R.A.C.S. or equivalent

-       Higher degree (Preferable)

-       C.S.S.A.N.Z. training
