Research Assistant

  • Full Time Fixed Term Parental Leave replacement position (12 months)

Your new team

  • The ICU Research Team participates in a large number of local and Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society Clinical Trials Group (ANZICS-CTG) endorsed trials
  • Staff co-authored > 150 peer reviewed publications during 2018, including publications in high impact journals (e.g. four manuscripts in the New England Journal of Medicine, one in JAMA and one in Lancet Respiratory Medicine)
  • Clinical research at Melbourne Health is embedded within the ICU, which provides high quality and multi-disciplinary care and is a recognised leader in the provision of tertiary/quaternary level care to critically ill patients
  • The ICU relocated to a new 32 bed facility in May/2016.  Currently the ICU admits more than 2500 patients per year with a diverse range of conditions

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Coordinate and facilitating research studies within the ICU and appropriate follow up of study participants within the hospital
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of applications to the Human Research Ethics Committee, Hospital, Governance and funding bodies (e.g. NHMRC)
  • Manage registration of trials with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ANZCTR)
  • Accurate collection and storage of study data
  • Ensure all research is conducted in accordance with ethical principles and that participant confidentiality is maintained at all times

Your Contribution

  • Possess a Bachelor of Science or equivalent
  • Well-developed writing skills and an ability to promptly prepare reports and/or manuscripts
  • Well-developed computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Endnote
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and their families, research colleagues, higher degree students and healthcare workers.
  • Extended hours work may be required in some circumstances
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and budgets and to work efficiently and effectively
