Life With Us:

Orygen Youth Health (OYH), a program of NorthWestern Mental Health, provides specialist mental health services for young people aged 15 to 24 and focuses on providing early intervention to young people with severe and complex mental illness. OYH also works alongside Orygen, the National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health which operates four primary mental health care headspace services in the catchment area.


Multidisciplinary teams deliver individually tailored services that comprise assessment and crisis intervention, case management, medication, psychotherapy, family support, inpatient care, group work, vocational support, educational assistance, and intensive outreach.  Specialist clinical streams offer targeted interventions for psychotic disorders (including young people at ‘ultra-high risk’ of psychosis), mood disorders, and personality disorders; and also manage the co-morbid substance use disorders, eating disorders, and neurodevelopment disorders.  A forensic stream is under development.  Streams are supported by the Psychosocial Recovery program and the Community Development program.  Additional information is available at www.oyh.org.au.  


A Job To Be Proud Of:

The main focus of the position is to implement the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program at Orygen Youth Health (OYH). The vocational specialist role requires intensive work with young people experiencing a range of mental health issues.


This will involve assertive outreach work combined with excellent youth engagement skills to ensure young people are well supported and are linked to suitable employment and educational opportunities.

  • Provide vocational leadership to clinical staff and actively develop partnerships with a wide range of external organisations to enhance vocational outcomes for young people.
  • Extensive contact with employers, training providers, educational institutions, community service organisations and other health professionals
  • Present information at clinical meetings and provide professional development workshops to promote the vocational recovery program both internally and outside of the service

The incumbent will work closely with OYH clinicians and will receive ongoing training and supervision from the Psychosocial Stream.

 

Your Contribution:

This exciting role requires extensive knowledge and expertise in the career development or disability employment sector, with a demonstrated understanding of youth mental health.

  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant field in a relevant area of practice
  • Experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, career development or a related field
  • Extensive knowledge of issues that impact young people when accessing employment and/or educational opportunities
  • Knowledge of the employment services sector, Centrelink and other state and federal employment initiatives that impact young people
