Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) | Melbourne Health | Part Time Fixed Term Position About the Role: Through its Metabolic Diseases Unit, Melbourne Health hosts the state wide service for adults with inherited metabolic diseases. This predominantly outpatient service is provided for all patients with inherited conditions that fall within the range of genetically determined metabolic disorders. The Metabolic Diseases Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital has strong links with the Department of Metabolic Medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and the Newborn & Metabolic Screening Laboratories of the Victorian Clinical Genetics Services, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, both well-established centres of excellence in the diagnosis and management of inherited metabolic diseases, key collaborators and an important source of referrals of adolescents and adults with inherited metabolic disorders. A dynamic multidisciplinary team of committed health care professionals leads the development of this specialty service in Victoria and Tasmania. Amongst the key goals of the service team is minimising disease related complications and hospitalisation along with the promotion of optimal health, well-being and personal independence. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the MDU Clinical Nurse Consultant has an important delegated role as case manager in the outpatient setting, assists in the complex work up of undiagnosed metabolic diseases patients, and will co-ordinate, negotiate, procure and manage the care of this patient population across the health care continuum. The CNC will act as a resource person in this field for health care workers in Victoria and Tasmania, and will be strongly supported by management and the MDU team to develop/enhance superior clinical knowledge and expertise in the specialty area of inherited metabolic diseases. The CNC will have well-developed organisation and communication skills, promoting best practice in the provision of patient care through clinical initiatives and service innovation.
