Clinical Research Informatics Officer – Intensive Care Unit

Your new team

  • The ICU Research Team participates in a large number of local and Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society Clinical Trials Group (ANZICS-CTG) endorsed trials
  • Staff co-authored > 150 peer reviewed publications during 2018, including publications in high impact journals (e.g. four manuscripts in the New England Journal of Medicine, one in JAMA and one in Lancet Respiratory Medicine)
  • Clinical research at Melbourne Health is embedded within the ICU, which provides high quality and multi-disciplinary care and is a recognised leader in the provision of tertiary/quaternary level care to critically ill patients
  • The ICU relocated to a new 32 bed facility in May/2016.  Currently the ICU admits more than 2500 patients per year with a diverse range of conditions
  • The Parkville Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is a world-class system shared by RMH, The Royal Women’s Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and The Royal Children’s Hospital to support high-quality, seamless healthcare in Parkville and improve health outcomes for Victorians.
  • Implemented in August 2020, the EMR is used by more than 15,000 clinicians and staff across the four health services and is delivered in partnership with Epic, a global leader in health information technology

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Optimise the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) electronic medical record (EMR) to allow identification and then randomisation of eligible patients into approved trials.
  • Work with the ICU research and EMR teams to facilitate the extraction of relevant data from patients that are participating in trials
  • Be responsible for responding to ad hoc training requirements and delivering education to support ongoing ICU research
  • Work collaboratively with the ICU Research Team, including the ICU Research Manager, Research Coordinators and Higher-Degree Research Students as directed by the Head of ICU Research.
  • Work closely with the EMR team as directed to the Head of ICU Research who may delegate responsibility to the EMR Director or Chief Medical Informatics Officer when the Officer is working in these areas

Your Contribution

  • Possess a Tertiary qualifications in a related field
  • A sound understanding of EMR functionality to support clinical research workflows
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Epic EMR environments and implementation process
  • Experience working in a tertiary hospital, healthcare operations or software deployment in healthcare
  • Ability to effectively engage clinicians conducting research
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and build strong relationships
