Youth Consultant - Orygen

Your new team

  • Orygen Youth Health (OYH) is a program of NorthWestern Mental Health, provides specialist mental health services for young people aged 15 to 24 and focuses on providing early intervention to young people with severe and complex mental illness
  •  OYH also works alongside Orygen, the National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health which operates four primary mental health care headspace services in the catchment area

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Contributing a lived-experience perspective to service planning and development of youth participation, clinical operations and various service meetings relating to role
  • Recruit to, and coordinate a lived-experience advisory group ‘the Platform Team’
  • Coordinating a range of opportunities for lived-experience participation
    • Quality improvement and service development activities
    • Resource development and implementation
    • Mental health promotion and awareness raising
    • Staff training
    • Research and other activities
    • Coordinate training for lived-experience volunteers
    • Liaise with other parts of the lived experience workforce, including peer workers, consumer consultants, family peer workers, peer educators and others
    • Attend to administrative tasks such as minute taking, correspondence, reimbursement associated with the above activities

Your Contribution

  • To have been or be a first-hand user of mental health services,  preferably as a young person. Experience in consulting from a consumer perspective, preferably in a youth-specific setting
  • Experience in engaging with other people with consumer lived experience, for the purposes of ensuring a broad cross-section of views are represented
  • Working knowledge of the Victorian public mental health system
  • Good organisational, time management and delegation skills
