The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

 

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our Pathology Collection Team. This is a Full Time, Fixed Term position, working 80 hours per fortnight.

 

Your Opportunity:

 

The position available is for a Pathology Collector to work in the busy and fast paced pathology collection service of Melbourne Health. This position is to provide blood collection services to the outpatient collection rooms and the wards of Melbourne Private Hospital and The Royal Melbourne Hospital which caters for an adult population. The position involves working weekdays, evenings, weekend shifts and being on call at weekends in turn.

  • Transport specimens within campus to appropriate courier, despatch or sample reception area, as required.
  • The ID2 Phlebotomist will rotate between all areas of specimen collection service, as rostered. They may be required to participate in rostered work in central specimen reception, data entry and provide pathology service at one or all locations where Melbourne Health Pathology Collection operates.
  • Adhere to Melbourne Health’s Policy and Procedure; including Hand Hygiene, patient identification and tube labelling
  • Manage risk and actively work toward implementing risk reduction strategies.
  • Demonstrate professional care with respect to patient privacy and confidentiality.

About You:

The successful applicant will have:

  • ability to work well in a team environment
  • a proven ability to prioritise workloads
  • experience in venepuncture and pathology collection
  • minimum certificate 3 or 4 in blood collection
