Team Leader - NWMH VFTAC Mental Health/Justice Interface Program

Life with us:

The purpose of this program is to provide enhanced services for those at risk of serious offending, especially through violent behaviour. The role encompasses development of the services that will support and complement the work of the Victorian Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (VFTAC). VFTAC is a newly created service for the identification, assessment and service planning for individuals believed to be at high risk of targeted acts of aggression. NWMH and Monash Health have been funded to provide direct clinical and support services to those identified by the VFTAC, and to support other AMHSs to manage these clients when appropriate.

  • Support clinical staff in the provision of complex clinical care for consumers experiencing psychiatric illness/disability who have been identified as being a Fixated Threat or a potential for Grievance Fuelled Violence by VFTAC and provide high level clinical expertise within the Program with respect to the assessment and treatment of this cohort of consumers with complex mental health related needs and their family/carers.
  • Support staff within the Community Team to provide quality consumer-focused care;
  • Provide sound clinical leadership and to be a role model for other staff
  • Assist in the coordination of clinical workload and monitor service delivery
  • Ensure effective communication between the NWMH VFTAC Mental Health/Justice Interface Program, other mental health programs within NWMH and externally, VFTAC, Operational Police and other external services.
  • Represent NWMH VFTAC Mental Health/Justice Interface Program on working groups and committees as delegated

Your Contribution:

  • Minimum 5 years post graduate clinical experience in a range of Mental Health settings
  • Academic Qualifications and registration in relevant discipline
  • Highly developed mental health assessment skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation, policies, charters and strategic directions of Public Mental Health Services
  • Knowledge and experience of community liaison and the development of community networks
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
