Better Care Victoria - Utilising Telehealth to bridge the gaps in

Young Onset Dementia

  • Part Time position (0.6 EFT)
  • Fixed contract (November 2018- January 2020)

Join our team and contribute to excellence in patient care through Clinical Neuropsychology services within the Neuropsychiatry Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital – City Campus. The Neuropsychiatry Unit is a state-wide specialist diagnostic unit and it has a strong focus in research, consultation, education and training.

 

The Neuropsychiatry Unit provides an inpatient and outpatient service, with a dedicated young onset dementia service.


The YOD telehealth project is an initiative to improve access and reduce costs associated with accessing diagnosis and care for those with possible young onset dementia (i.e. age of onset under 65 years). In collaboration with Better Care Victoria, the project involves the implementation of a telehealth diagnostic service, across Victoria with The Royal Melbourne Hospital at its centre. This project will also partner with Cognition, Dementia and Memory Clinics in Ballarat, Albury and Goulburn Valley, as well as with Dementia Australia, Huntington’s Victoria and general practitioners in these areas.


A key element of the role requires directly engaging and working with patients, carers, and the abovementioned partner to share and facilitate best practice.

  • Assessment and Care of patients and their families via telehealth, or face to face as required
  • Leading and managing state-wide implementation
  • Providing subject matter expertise
  • Working collaboratively with the Neuropsychiatry Clinical Lead, Project Manager and Better Care Victoria to deliver project objectives
  • Coordinating the development of and implementation of project resources (clinical and education resources implementation guides).
  • Providing and delivering content at project workshops, meetings, and learning sessions
  • Developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships.
  • Preparing presentations, publications and project updates.
  • Assisting with data collection and analysis of results and key outcomes
  • Participating in site teleconferences with participating services
  • Providing site support, coaching and undertaking site visits with participating services
  • Recommending actions to address opportunities for improvement and sustainability and monitor the implementation of these actions.

Your Contribution:

  • You demonstrate empathy and a compassionate approach to patients and family members, ensuring their participation in all stages of care
  • You are a reflective critical thinker with an evidenced based approach to the provision of patient care
  • You are an effective communicator, able to adjust your communication style and language to meet the needs of each individual patient
  • Sound theoretical knowledge of neuropsychological profiles in a range of neuropsychiatric conditions
  • Experienced in providing expert differential diagnosis for patients with neuropsychiatric conditions
  • Knowledge and skill in providing clinical interventions to clients with neuropsychiatric conditions including psychoeducation, counselling, cognitive remediation and behaviour management
  • Demonstrated skill in working as a member of a team and liaising, collaborating and negotiating with other service providers and agencies
  • Doctorate or Masters level qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology approved by the Psychology Board of Australia
