The purpose of this role is to be the key full time medical officer involved in the provision of ophthalmic care in Melbourne Health. With the support of the consultant medical staff, the registrar is responsible for ambulatory, emergent and inpatient ophthalmic diagnosis and management, including performance of ophthalmic surgery under appropriate supervision, and performance of ophthalmic laser and intravitreal injection procedures.
The ophthalmology department strongly supports the development of ophthalmology registrars to become fully independent clinicians. The ophthalmology registrar is expected to take the opportunity to learn from the varied educational and clinical opportunities available at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.
