Your Opportunity:

If you want to develop cardiac knowledge, utilise monitoring and other specialised equipment and expand your nursing assessment skills, all whilst within a knowledgeable & engaging team, then this opportunity is for you. The skills you learn here are highly sought after and a great introduction to caring for high acuity and complex surgical patients.  While previous experience in cardiac or surgical nursing is looked on favourably it is not essential.  The important factor is that you have a keen interest in cardiothoracic nursing and want to learn new skills. 6 South East ward has an excellent culture, where the cardiothoracic nursing team is friendly, proactive and keen to accept and teach newcomers to the ward.  On our ward there are a high number of nurses with post-graduate cardiothoracic certificates and a clinical nurse education team.

This dynamic team provides specialty post-operative care for a wide range of cardiac and thoracic surgical patients. The entire 30 bedded unit is cardiac monitored, utilising specialised respiratory and pacing equipment, digital chest drains and ultrasonography to assist in delivering high quality, nurse-led care.  Care for high acuity patients is provided in our 12 bedded High Dependency Unit.  In addition 6 of the beds on the ward are reserved for Cardiology patients. As a result, nursing on 6 South-East is extremely varied and interesting, involving elements of cardiac, critical care and specialised surgical care.
