About The Role:

A Part time fixed term position exists for a Grade 1 Scientist in our Anatomical Pathology Department at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. The successful applicant must have a dedicated degree in Medical Laboratory Science with a major in Histology.

 

Experience in histology and cytology is preferred. Following suitable training, you will be rotated through the various sections of the laboratory performing duties which include:

  • Perform and assist with the specimen cut up.
  • Operation and general maintenance of tissue processing equipment.
  • Perform paraffin sectioning of biopsy specimens.
  • Prepare sections from “Frozen Section” specimens for urgent diagnosis.
  • Perform routine, special staining and immunohistochemistry techniques using prescribed methodologies and appropriate control procedures.
  • Assist at renal biopsy procedures to ensure appropriate tissue sampling.
  • Perform cytology sample preparation of non-gynaecological samples.
  • Other duties as directed.

The successful candidate is expected to participate in staff rotations, on call (which may involve out of hours re-call), participate in self education activities, internal & external training courses, and in clinical and scientific meetings.
