Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL)

Full Time Fixed Term until March 2019

 

A fixed term vacancy exists for a full time medical scientist Grade 1 within the State Reference Laboratory for HIV Characterisation located at the Victorian Infectious Disease Reference Laboratory (VIDRL), The Doherty Institute, Melbourne. Applicants for the position should have a minimum of a BSc or BSc (Hons) degree and at least 2 years of laboratory experience.

 

The position will involve routine handling and processing of infectious materials for routine diagnostic work and clinical trial studies, performance of HIV quantitation assays using automated robotic platforms and characterisation of HIV strains for drug resistance.  Molecular skills and knowledge of techniques such as nucleic acid extraction, PCR both real-time and conventional and sequencing will be highly regarded.  The successful candidate must be able to work independently and also as part of a team and have strong attention to detail. 

 

The successful candidate will also be well organised, self-motivated, have a high standard of record keeping skills, have a knowledge of NATA or ISO working environments as well as a working knowledge of Microsoft programs (Excel/Word/PowerPoint) and have good communication and teamwork skills.
