Clinical Nurse Educator (Emergency Department) – Mental Health / Alcohol and Other Drugs

  • Full time, permanent role located at RMH Emergency Department - City Campus
  • Support individuals experiencing mental health crisis in a dynamic environment
  • Contribute to the planning and development of a new Mental Health/ AOD Hub

We are promoting a unique role supporting the team who to care for consumers seeking mental health and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) services.  This role works closely with RMH ED, Emergency Mental Health team and consumer lived experienced members.


About us

 

The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) Emergency Department (ED) provides care to approximately 90,000 patients per year including 700 Mental Health, Alcohol & Other Drug presentations per month. Our service includes a six-bed Behavioural Assessment Unit for intoxication, overdose and acute behavioural disturbance and a future 12-bed Mental Health and AOD Hub due for completion in January 2023.

 

Your new role

 

This is a unique and exciting role for a senior nurse looking to further their career. You will be involved the planning and development of the 12-bed Mental Health/AOD Hub, as well as:

  • Provide ongoing professional development to all nursing staff within the Emergency Department with the emphasis on educational programs specific to mental health, alcohol and other drugs.
  • Contribute to safe and timely access to MH and AOD services, work effectively with RMH ED to assist with the clinical management of consumers presenting to the ED.
  • Assist in the development of evidence based models of care for Emergency Mental Health and AOD presentations

About you

 

You are an experience Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the following attributes:

  • Comprehensive clinical knowledge and expertise to the assessment and delivery of evidence based interventions to consumers with complex mental health related needs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships between EMH, RMH ED and Alcohol and Other drugs services collocated in RMH ED.
  • A commitment to your own professional development and the ability to support and develop knowledge and skills in other team members.
  • Bed based services and Emergency experience would be beneficial and is encouraged
