  • Part Time Fixed Term position, 32 hours per fortnight until the end of May 2019 (parental  leave cover) with the possibility of extension

Your Opportunity:

The Diabetes Research Centre (DRC) is seeking a vibrant and enthusiastic Research Nurse/Study Coordinator to join a team of supportive health professionals and scientists working on the Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (EnDIA) study at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

 

The DRC conducts a number of clinical trials and research projects in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

 

The objective of the EnDIA study is to follow 1400 children (approximately 350 at Melbourne Health) over 5 sites within Australia who have a first degree relative with T1D, initially during pregnancy and then the first 10 years of life, to determine how genotype and changes in weight, insulin sensitivity, metabalome, lipidome, microbiome, vitamin D, omega 3 fatty acid and nutritional status, and the timing and frequency of viral infections, relate to the development of islet autoimmunity.


Your Opportunity:

 

 This position is Part-Time fixed term, with the potential for ongoing employment. Whilst research experience will be highly regarded, nurses/midwives without research experience are also encouraged to apply.

  • Manage an Investigator Initiated study titled “Early environmental determinants of pancreatic islet autoimmunity (EnDIA): a pregnancy to early life cohort study in children at risk of type 1 diabetes (T1D)” 
  • Assist with other  diabetes research projects within the Diabetes Research Centre (DRC)
  • Develop an understanding and remain up to date with current research projects being conducted in the DRC

About You:

  • Current Nursing Registration with AHRPA
  • Extensive experience in venepuncture
  • Highly developed ability to prioritise workload and multitask
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills
  • Highly-developed computer literacy
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when required

 Desirable

  • Previous experience in clinical trial research 
  • Midwifery qualifications 
  • Experience in data management 
  • Experience in paediatric nursing, midwifery and/or diabetes nursing/education will be highly regarded
