The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community based facilities. We are looking for passionate and dedicated individuals to join the Mycobacterial Laboratory team within the Victorian Infectious Disease Reference Laboratory (VIDRL).

 

Your Opportunity:

  • Lead a team of scientists and technicians in the testing and analysis of microbiological samples relevant to Mycobacteriology diagnostic and reference services.
  • Provision of molecular test development, genomics implementation and service provision
  • Promote the terms of reference of the WHO Regional Reference Laboratory (RRL) for Mycobacterium 
  • Participate in research reports and external funding applications
  • To contribute to the financial performance of the Mycobacterial  laboratory against budgetary targets, and to assist in the setting of budgetary targets 
  • To provide expert advice regarding interpretation of laboratory results to medical, scientific, nursing, and public health staff as appropriate  

About You:

  •  Postgraduate qualifications in Microbiology and/or equivalent mix of education and considerable relevant experience.
  • Excellent understanding and extensive experience in Mycobacteriology, including reference, research and diagnostics along with an understanding of microbial bioinformatics.
  • Relevant knowledge of microbiological standards including NATA, Department of Agriculture (Quarantine Accredited Premises), The National Health Security Act (DoH)
  • Understanding of the public health, clinical and regulatory contexts in which laboratory testing occurs.
  • Ability to lead a diagnostic laboratory service testing team
  • Superior time management, analytical and organisational skills allowing prioritisation, problem solving and timely, accurate completion of tasks.
  • Ability to relate well to external stakeholders including the public, government, industry and other professional colleagues including research fellows and academia.
  • Ability to show initiative, embrace new concepts and work under broad directio
