A vacancy exists for a Senior Medical Scientist (Grade 4) within the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL), located at the Doherty Institute, Melbourne. 

 

Your Opportunity:

The purpose of this role is to lead and manage diagnostic reference and research activities for hepatitis viruses (A-E) for a 12 month period. The position will require applicants to have significant expertise relating to the virology of hepatitis viruses, experience with the techniques and equipment used in their detection and characterisation.


About You:

  • BSc or BSc (Hons) degree and at least 10 years of laboratory experience relevant to Clinical Virology
  • Abiliity to lead reference laboratory services, public health laboratory initiatives and research projects as required by the organisation
  • Contributing to the activities of a WHO Collaborating Centre in viral hepatitis; and a WHO hepatitis B regional reference laboratory
  • Well organised, self-motivated, have a strong attention to detail
  • High standard of record keeping skills
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • It is essential for this role that applicants also have experience and expertise in laboratory computer systems and laboratory compliance requirements for ISO 15189
