The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

We are looking for passionate and dedicated individuals to join our Social Work team. This is a Full Time Fixed Term position, working 80 hours per fortnight, based at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, City Campus but staff can be required to work at our Royal Park Campus.


Your Opportunity:

This is a significant opportunity to provide a high quality social work service to patients and their families in our acute setting.

  • Specialisations and priorities for Social Worker’s working in public hospitals include: comprehensive psychosocial and risk assessments, effective discharge planning, care coordination within a multidisciplinary team environment, family/carer work, client advocacy and advanced counselling
  • Current ward and clinical areas for this position include (but are not limited to) ward 9 West, Rheumatology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Diabetic Foot Unit and Cardiology 6 South East
  • The Social Work Department has a well-established supervision program and supports ongoing professional development for all staff
  • The Royal Melbourne Hospital is a teaching hospitals and Social Workers are actively involved in the clinical training of students

About You:

  • Sound communication skills and demonstrable experience of working effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Sound clinical skills in assessment, discharge planning, counselling, knowledge and application of social work theory and effective prioritisation of tasks is required
  • Eligible for Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) registration
