  • The RMH CMIO will work alongside the CMIO – Optimisation and Quality Improvement and will foster collaborative working relationships with staff from across RMH including the CXIOs, medical staff, medical leadership team, clinical staff and other key stakeholders including the University of Melbourne and precinct partners. 
  • The RMH CMIO for Clinical Informatics and Research Development will develop a 5-year clinical informatics strategy which includes building future capability. This role will report to the RMH Director of EMR and RMH Executive Director of Clinical Governance and Medical Services and will work closely with the Office for Research to embed mechanisms to use the EMR for current and emerging research needs. The role will ensure the EMR supports and enables the RMH's research strategy. 
  • The RMH Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) – Clinical Informatics and Research Development is responsible for providing leadership and facilitating research and clinical informatics through the use of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), other systems and technology at RMH.

We are also a proud part of the world renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

We are looking for passionate and dedicated individuals to join our EMR team. This is a Part Time Fixed Term position, working 32 hours per fortnight, based at RMH City campus.

Your Opportunity:

  • Lead and encourage medical and clinical research in the use of technology and systems
  • Lead and enable the development of workforce informatics capabilities
  • Embed mechanisms to use the EMR for current and emerging research needs
  • Develop a 5-year clinical informatics strategy which includes building future capability (e.g. through fellowships)
  • Undertake horizon scanning for best practice in clinical informatics
  • Work with the Office for Research, RMH clinical services and Parkville EMR team to identify key improvements to EMR research workflows, ensuring the system enhances the ability to recruit to trials and other clinical research projects and also enables researchers to easily access existing data for research
  • Drive the use of the Health Hub for clinical informatics and research
  • Work with the Parkville EMR team and EMR vendor to identify opportunities for integration with electronic research management systems
  • Drive the use of clinical informatics to inform opportunities for improvement and new initiatives
  • Ensure data is available to clinical staff in a format that enables the understanding and translation of clinical practice leading to improvement in service delivery and patient outcomes
  • Identify and respond to learning, development and training needs for staff related to reporting, research and clinical informatics
  • Support the delivery of EMR benefits and identify other EMR benefits through data analysis that contribute to the achievement of improved quality and safety, financial accountability and performance across RMH
  • Work with the EMR report writers and business intelligence team to ensure the necessary reports and dashboards are available to support clinical informatics
  • Ensure the EMR contributes to and enables the RMH Research strategy
  • Work with the Parkville precinct partners to build upon the research outputs form the precinct, including data capture for retrospective studies and functions to enhance prospective studies, in particular clinical trials and large Victoria wide cohort studies

 


About You:

  • Formal Qualifications

-  Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.

 

  • Essential:

-  Current specialist registration with AHPRA

-  A sound understanding of EMR functionality to support medical workflows

-  Significant experience and understanding of health care systems and processes

-  An understanding of the broader e-health landscape including national e-health activity including the My Health Record and clinical systems used within health care organisations

-  Experience in delivering innovation in informatics

-  Experience in building relationships with researchers

-  Working in a SMS role or clinical role

-  Proven ability to meet strategic and operational objectives

-  Proven ability to initiate and manage large, complex enterprise-wide projects.

-  Strategic thinking, organisational and planning ability, analysis and judgement.

-  A positive and effective track record of innovation, continuous improvement and change management

-  Ability to build rapport and maintain effective relationships with employees from all levels of an organisation

-  Demonstrated and highly developed oral and written communication skills, particularly in reporting, public presentation and consultation, and the ability to negotiate and communicate with relevant internal and external stakeholders

-  Adaptability and resilience
