Life With Us:


Orygen Youth Health Speciality Program (OSP) Inpatient Unit is an Acute Mental Health Inpatient service for young people. The inpatient unit includes a 16 bed low dependency area and a further 6 beds for targeted specialised service delivery for youth with complex mental and psychosocial needs.

The Senior Occupational Therapist is a member of the multidisciplinary team who works closely with young people and their families to achieve positive treatment outcomes for young people who have experienced serious mental illness and have complex mental health needs. They will support a change process to embed recovery principles and trauma informed care into practice throughout the unit in collaboration with CNC, so that young people experience the unit as recovery-oriented and supportive of their individual journeys of recovery.


There will be a focus on assessment and treatment within the intensive care area (ICA) where young people are experiencing increased acuity and complexity as well as support other members of the team to provide high quality care to those in ICA. Provide leadership to the Allied Health team at the inpatient unit, and be part of the IPU Leadership team.


Your contribution

  • Postgraduate/advanced qualifications in occupational therapy, or other relevant fields
  • Experience or an interest in working in Youth Mental health
  • Being an advocate for you g people within an acute mental health service
  • You will bring your own expertise to our team, sharing your knowledge and experience to the program
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to provide optimal care and expertise within the service framework
  • Interest in Sensory Modulation, Safewards and group work in an IPU
  • Demonstrated ability in time management and organisational skills
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills within a team framework and demonstrated ability to relate to young people, carers, other professionals and members of the general community
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, government policy and strategic directions in the mental health field
