In 2018, The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) celebrates a major milestone – its 170th birthday. As Victoria’s first public hospital, the RMH has touched the lives of millions of Victorians, providing care and treatment for the sickest in our community through outstanding clinical care, medical research and the training of future healthcare professionals. RMH provides specialist and general acute and subacute health services across two campuses. Primarily serving the north western communities of Melbourne, the RMH also provides statewide and specialist services to rural and regional Victorians.
RMH is part of Melbourne Health, which includes Northwestern Mental Health and the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory.


Research & Education
RMH is a partner in Melbourne’s internationally renowned Parkville Precinct, the hub of medical and biotechnology research, education and development, and medical services delivery in Victoria. RMHl has strong links with research facilities including the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research and the National Ageing Research Institute, and is a partner in Australia’s largest brain research collaboration, the Melbourne Brain Centre. RMH has a close affiliation with The University of Melbourne and works closely with other universities for undergraduate and postgraduate education of medical, nursing and allied health professionals.

 

RMH has a combined Medical Workforce and Education Unit that provides support for Doctors in Training with staff dedicated to maximising your Intern experience and education that includes weekly pager free intern sessions. Medical Workforce and Education Unit coordinate your rosters, rotations, formal education and also provide career advise and pastrol care.

 

Interns at RMH rotate through five terms. These include General Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Vascular Surgery, Stroke, Urology, Infectious Diseases, Orthopaedics, Psychiatry, Palliative Care, Gynaecology and Rehabilitation. Secondment rotations include Ballarat Health Services, North East Health Wangaratta, The Royal Women’s Hospital and Wimmera Health Care Group Horsham. All Interns are required to undertake at least one rural rotation.

 

The Computer Match, coordinated by the Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) will be used to facilitate Intern appointments for 2019. For further information on the PMCV Computer Match and to view the eligibility, please visit www.pmcv.com.au.


Melbourne Health Internship Application Eligibility Criteria:

 

* Must be eligible and have registered for the PMCV Intern Match

* Minimum University Z Score of 3.5

Essential: Have you held a formal leadership role designated by your university or a university-related organisation? (minimum of 6 months involvement in past 2 years)
Essential: Have you held a formal leadership role outside university e.g. in a community organisation? (minimum of 6 months involvement in past 2 years)
Essential: Have you undertaken regular paid work? (minimum of 5 hours/week continuously for at least 12 months within the last 5 years)
Essential: Have you undertaken regular voluntary or unpaid work? (minimum of 8 hours/month continuously for at least 6 months within the last 5 years)
Essential: Have you undertaken extracurricular work in your medical training e.g. research, clinical elective, innovation projects? (minimum 4 hours per fortnightly continuously for at least 3 months within the last 2 years)
Essential: Do you have any publications in peer reviewed journals (including any 'pending')?
