Royal Melbourne Hospital Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Microsurgical Fellowship 2016/2017
The Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital is offering a one year clinical reconstructive microsurgery fellowship training open to qualified overseas Plastic Surgeons eligible for temporary medical registration in Victoria. Appointments are for 12 months from 1 September through to 31 August the following year.
The Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Unit has 14 attending plastic surgeons, 2 local accredited registrars and 5 residents. The Unit specialises in microsurgical free flaps including breast reconstruction, head & neck cancer reconstruction and lower limb trauma reconstruction. The Unit also specialises in facial trauma and craniofacial surgery.
With more than 2,000 surgical procedures performed a year including 130 free flaps, the fellow will be required to participate in 2 major head & neck lists and 1-2 breast reconstructions per week. The fellowship caseload also involves significant work on nerve repairs and trauma reconstructions.
The Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of Victoria’s leading tertiary, teaching referral hospital providing specialist and general medical and surgical services, including cardiac, neuroscience and oncology, as well providing a major trauma service and Victorian Infectious Diseases Service.
