The Royal Melbourne Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an Occupation Therapist (GR 2), Social Worker (GR 2) or a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (GR 3 or equivalent) to join the North West Area Mental Health Service team in Coburg. The purpose of this role is to build capacity within area mental health services to ensure all eligible consumers have been referred for psychosocial support through either scheme, and to provide an AMHS interface between NDIS and EIPRS providers.
Life with Us:
NorthWestern Mental Health is one of the largest providers of Mental Health Services in Victoria. Our multi-disciplinary workforce of skilled and dynamic clinicians, consumers and carers, provide a recovery-oriented approach to care. We are dedicated to providing a caring and high quality range of specialist, community and hospital-based mental health services for youth, adult and aged people who are experiencing, or are at risk of developing a serious mental illness.
Psychosocial Support is one of the most important factors contributing to a person’s recovery. People receive this support through rehabilitation programs such as CCU’s, through families, carers and the community. It supports people to build skills to manage their mental illnesses, develop social skills and friendships, and build capacity in managing day-to-day activities.
With the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), all non-clinical mental health support services were transitioned to an NDIS funding model, meaning those individuals without NDIS packages could not access psychosocial support services. The Early Intervention Psychosocial Response program was developed to fund community support providers to provide psychosocial support to consumers without NDIS packages. Referral to this service has not yet been fully maximised.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has been gradually implemented across the NWMH catchment areas, however recent audit results show that only 30% NWMH consumers have an NDIS package, and only 62% of these consumers utilise their package. It is estimated that a further 15% of consumers meet criteria but clinicians have not had capacity to complete applications.

- Identify eligible consumers of the service who have not received a psychosocial package.

- Support clinicians through development of high quality applications for support packages.
- Work closely with providers and clinicians to troubleshoot any difficulties in consumer uptake of packages.
- Report and track EIPSRS data and discharge outcomes.
