Senior Clinician Emergency Mental Health

Your new team

 

The Inner West Emergency Mental Health Team (EMH) is a multi-disciplinary team, which provides a 24-hour, 7-day/week assessment and treatment service to people experiencing psychiatric crisis who present to The Royal Melbourne Hospital’s (RMH) Emergency Department. 

  • We are a small specialised consultation service that is co-located in the RMH Emergency Department. 
  • The team maintains a pivotal role within the ED providing an interface between community mental health services, IWAMHS Post Discharge Mental Health Support program and inpatient services including Consultation Liaison Psychiatry.
  • EMH contribute to the assessment, management, treatment and discharge planning of consumers who present in crisis and with potential mental health disorders.
  • The team operates in a dynamic, fast paced environment and works closely with Alcohol and Other Drugs (AoD) and care coordination services.

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Capacity to work autonomously to support individuals presenting in mental health crisis, where possible including family and carers in treatment outcomes.
  • Develop and excel in your clinical assessment and application of targeted brief interventions, risk assessment, crisis management and communication skills.
  • Consult with ED staff whilst identifying and assessing persons with a possible mental illness.
  • Contribute discipline specific expertise to a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Your Contribution

  • Possess formal qualifications and registration as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist or Social Worker.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of mental illness and the assessment of disorders including relevant legislation pertinent to the role.
