Deputy Chief Medical Officer

  • Part time or full time considered (0.6 – 1.0 EFT)
  • Successful applicants will have a FRACMA and at least 5 years experience in medical leadership roles

The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) is looking for a Deputy Chief Medical Officer to join our CMO and Director, Medical Services and our clinical leaders in providing medical leadership across RMH. The role will sit within the Clinical Governance and Medical Services (CGMS) portfolio at RMH. The role will work closely with the executive, our Services leadership teams and the broader RMH leadership team.


The CGMS portfolio is a broad based portfolio comprising a range of services including: medical workforce and education; medicolegal services; library; infection prevention and surveillance services; VIDRL and VICNISS.


This new role will:

  • Deputise for, and when required, act in the role of, the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Provide leadership in medical governance – recruitment, performance and development of Medical Staff, Medical Education and training and medical governance processes.
  • Provide leadership in clinical governance and provide support to the quality, informatics and improvement activities of RMH: e.g. executive sponsorship of relevant national standards programs of work; chairing of in-depth case review and RCA’s; identification and management of clinical risk.
  • Provide leadership, advice and support to the medicolegal services across RMH
  • Portfolio accountabilities may be tailored to interests of the successful applicant
  • Support clinical leads and teams to implement programs of work.
  • Work with precinct partners to support a high functioning environment for staff with streamlined, consistent processes and procedures.
  • Partcipate in On Call roster as required.

As one of Victoria’s largest public health services, RMH provides a comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services; as well as rehabilitation, aged care, outpatient and community programs. We are a designated state-wide provider for services including trauma, and we lead centres of excellence for tertiary services in several key specialties including neurosciences, nephrology, oncology, cardiology and virtual health.
